SAFETY TIPS & ROUTE NOTES

Construction Notice:
The 8th Street Bridge and area around the Anne Frank Memorial is undergoing construction. Mind the detour signs and reroute to nearby river crossings if needed.
Arterial Crossings: All major intersections have full signals or pedestrian signals—larger intersections include Franklin/Rose Hill, Myrtle and Front Streets. Wait for the green signal or walk sign and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
Special Route Considerations:
Along the Shoshone Bikeway, there are a few intersection jogs. Follow the signs and use the bicycle paths and pedestrian signals that are provided at these locations.
This route includes the Peasley Stairway connection to Ann Morrison Park. This is a 103-step staircase or the equivalent of 8 flights! There is a bicycle runnel that's provided. Alternative routes include Capitol Blvd and Americana.
Bicycling Infrastracture Tips:
Shared Lane Markings or "Sharrows": This route includes streets with shared lane markings or "sharrows". Ride in the center of the lane where sharrows are marked, especially if the lane is too narrow for a bike and car to share side by side. Be visible and predictable.
Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons or "HAWK" Signals: Press the push button and wait for the walk sign to turn on. Drivers are expected to stop when the light becomes red. Make sure they have stopped before proceeding through the intersection.
Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB): Activate the RRFB by pressing the push button before crossing. Wait for traffic to yield, make sure all lanes are clear, and then cross carefully—stay alert even when drivers are slowing down.
