QUICK TIPS FOR BIKE COMMUTING
SET REALISTIC GOALS
If you're just starting out, start small with your bike commuting goals. Try one time a week or biking in to work and then riding the bus home.
PLAN FOR YOUR ARRIVAL
Explore your workplace's bicycle commuting facilities ahead of time so you know what to expect before you commute the first time. Find out where the safest bicycle parking options are and whether there are lockers and showers available for use.
CHECK YOUR BIKE
If you already have a working bike, great! Make sure to do the ABC Quick check before you're ready to roll. If you don't have a bike, check our resources for local bike shops and bike co-ops to find a bike that works for you. Having a comfortable, safe bike is key to your enjoyment!
PACK YOUR BAGS THE NIGHT BEFORE
One of our tips for success is to pack your bags the night before! If you're running late, or having doubts in the morning, this makes the likelihood you'll bike commute much greater!
TEST YOUR ROUTE
If you're trying out a bike commute route for the first time, consider testing it out when you have ample time to explore route alternatives and make sure you know the way. This can save you stress and time when you're ready to commute!
WEAR LAYERS
Regardless the time of year, it's always helpful to wear and bring layers. It can be cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon, so plan accordingly.
