If you're looking for community, riding, advocacy, races, or youth activities, Boise has you covered.  Explore our resources below for an overview of opportunities.

LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS

Boise is home numerous local bicycling organizations that promote and support bicycling of all types. Whether you're interested in a joining an advocacy organization, participating in local rides, joining a mountain bike club, commuting by bike, or participating in local community bike events, Boise has plenty of options for you to choose from!

Radical Adventure Riders (RAR)

Radical Adventure Riders (RAR) Boise is a local chapter of a national movement focused on gender inclusivity and racial equity in cycling and outdoor spaces, formed out of the Boise Bicycle Project’s Femme Empowerment Mechanics Night. The group organizes inclusive events like bikepacking trips and community rides, creating a welcoming environment for women, trans, and nonbinary cyclists in the Boise area.

Cooperative Biking & Recreation

Cooperative Biking & Recreation (CBC) organizes group rides, trips, and events to foster recreational cycling in the Treasure Valley. 

Idaho Women's Bikepacking

Idaho Women's Bikepacking (IWBP) is a group for those who identify as female and are interested in bikepacking. They support, education, gear, and organized rides to empower the female bikepacker.

ACHD Commuteride

ACHD Commuteride is an Ada County Highway District program that promotes transportation options for Treasure Valley commuters. In addition to their vanpool and rideshare program, Commuteride provides campaigns and incentives to encourage smart commuting.

SWIMBA

SWIMBA (Southwest Idaho Mountain Biking Association) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing mountain biking opportunities in southwest Idaho. SWIMBA works to build, maintain, and advocate for trails, while also promoting the sport through community events, education, and volunteer efforts.

BYRDS (Boise Young Riders Development Squad)

BYRDS offers youth-focused programs in mountain biking, road cycling, and cyclocross, catering to riders aged 6–18. ​

Hoppy Cycling Club

Hoppy Cycling is a local mountain bike club. The members are a diverse group of athletes who participate in various cycling events.

Boise Bicycle Project

​Boise Bicycle Project (BBP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting bicycling for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. They provide access to refurbished bicycles, offer educational workshops, and a variety of events and advocacy opportunities.

Idaho Walk Bike Alliance

The Idaho Walk Bike Alliance (IWBA) is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting walking and biking in Idaho. They focus on improving infrastructure, advocating for policy changes, and fostering community engagement to improve transportation options.

VRT City Go

City Go is a program managed by the local transit agency (VRT) focused on promoting transportation options for commuters. They offer benefit programs for employers and individuals to access local transportation services including the bus, secure bike parking, and carpool parking at reduced rates.

Lactic Acid Cycling

A nonprofit promoting cycling through organized road rides, training, and community events, emphasizing safety and camaraderie. Their tagline is "a social group with a cycling obsession".

Crank Queens Boise

Crank Queens empowers women through mountain biking by offering group rides, skills clinics, community events and membership programs.

Treasure Valley Cycling Alliance

The Treasure Valley Cycling Alliance (TVCA) is a nonprofit focused on promoting and advocating for cycling opportunities. TVCA organizes events during the year such as Boise Bike Week and Bike to Work Day.

Idaho Smart Growth

Idaho Smart Growth is an organization focused on promoting sustainable, well-planned development across the state. They advocate for smart growth strategies that prioritize walkable communities, efficient land use, and environmental stewardship.

Safe Routes to School

Treasure Valley Safe Routes to School makes walking and biking to school safer and more accessible for children in the Treasure Valley. It works with schools, communities, and local governments to improve infrastructure, provide safety education, and encourage active transportation options for students.

National Bike & Roll to School Day

This day encourages students to walk, bike, or roll to school and is part of the larger celebration of National Bike Month in May. Check your local school to see what events are happening!

December

Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway

The Boise Bicycle Project's Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway is an annual event where over 500 children receive refurbished, customized "dream bikes" each December. A great event to be a part of!

July 19, 2025

Twilight Criterium

This one day cycling race has taken over Boise's downtown streets for nearly 40 years showcasing top riders and one of the country's best criteriums. Back in the day, it actually occurred in the dark of night creating quite the experience!

Sept. 28, 2025

Open Streets Boise

Open Streets Boise will take over neighborhood streets and transform them into car-free community spaces where folks can bike, walk, and roll together. The 2025 event will take place on Ustick on the West Bench.

May 17, 2025

Cycle for Independence

A community ride offering 10-mile, 25-mile, and 100 km routes to support the National Federation of the Blind of Idaho, featuring food, live music, and prizes

November

Cranksgiving

Cranksgiving Boise is an annual scavenger hunt on bikes that takes place in November. Thanksgiving food items are collected around town by teams and then donated to Saint Vincent de Paul for its program that helps feed families in need throughout the Treasure Valley.

June

Boise Mountain Bike Festival

This annual weekend-long event takes place at Boise's local ski and mountain bike hill - Bogus Basin. The Festival brings together the community to ride, learn, and be part of giving back to help build this amazing mountain bike community here in the Treasure Valley.

June - July

Boise Trails Challenge

How many of Boise’s amazing trails have you tried? The Boise Trails Challenge is an annual month-long challenge in June and July to complete as many of Boise’s trails as you can during a single month.

July 20, 2025

Bogus Basin Hill Climb

The third-oldest continuously running hill climb in the U.S., challenging riders with an 18.5-mile ascent gaining 4,314 feet

May in Motion

Do you live and work in Boise or the Treasure Valley? This annual commute campaign, brought to you by ACHD Commuteride, supports businesses and encourages commuters to choose a different mode. Great prizes and fun events!

Bike to Work Day

Coordinated by Treasure Valley Cycling Alliance, Boise Bike Week has been underway for more than 20 years in Boise! Boise Bike Week takes place the fourth week of May and wraps up with Bike to Work Day. Join in the fun or just ride a bike!

BIKE-THEMED BUSINESSES

In addition to all the great cycling organizations, local bike shops, and bike-friendly businesses, we love finding businesses that have adopted a bicycle theme! One of our favorites in Boise is The Handlebar. In addition to being a great bar with numerous taps, they provide indoor bike parking, are designed completely around bicycles, and organize a variety of community bicycle events (e.g., indoor races) you won't want to miss!
