SAFETY TIPS & ROUTE NOTES

Arterial Crossings: All major intersections are signalized—larger intersections include Myrtle, Front and 9th Streets downtown. Wait for the green signal or walk sign and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
Pathway Etiquette: The Greenbelt is a happening place! Slow your roll, stay right, pass with care (on the left), and use a bell or say “on your left.”
Bicycling Downtown: Downtown Boise is the place to be! When riding, stay alert for turning vehicles, people opening car doors, and pedestrians. Ride in a straight line, avoid weaving between cars, and use hand signals clearly.
Special Route Considerations:
When you are exiting the JUMP campus at 11th Street and Myrtle Street, you'll cross both streets in order to access the Pioneer Pathway. Follow the green striped bike lanes and cross with the signals are green.
Construction Alerts: Detours are in place near the Anne Frank Memorial; be prepared to follow the detour signs as applicable and navigate back to the route if needed.
Bicycling Infrastracture Tips:
Shared Streets: This route includes shared streets in downtown. While these are lower traffic and lower speed streets, use cautaion and ride in the center of the lane, especially if the lane is too narrow for a bike and car to share side by side. Be visible and predictable.
Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons or "HAWK" Signals: Press the push button and wait for the walk sign to turn on. Drivers are expected to stop when the light becomes red. Make sure they have stopped before proceeding through the intersection.
Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB): Activate the RRFB by pressing the push button before crossing. Wait for traffic to yield, make sure all lanes are clear, and then cross carefully—stay alert even when drivers are slowing down.
